Self-Confidence
This does not come naturally for many people, but self-confidence can be developed over a period of time. Through Tang Soo Do, as students accomplish new goals, their confidence level increases. This is the feeling of Pyong Ahn, or peaceful confidence, attained through continuous practice. Students of Tang Soo Do typically begin learning the Pyung Ahn series of forms at Orange Belt (8th Gup). These forms are an important part of our Moo Do (martial discipline) development.
Tang Soo Do practice instills a sense of discipline and self confidence that can carry over to all aspects of life. Our instructors constantly remind students to take what they learn in class "off the floor and out the door" of the dojang.
"The peaceful part of Pyung Ahn is demonstrated in patience, quietness, and in humility. In everything that I do, I try and keep an even temperament instead of reacting with rash behavior or heated emotion. There have been many times in my life where a peaceful confidence in my beliefs or in my knowledge has kept me out of harm’s way or even encouraged people to ask what my secret was." (excerpt from OCKicks student essay)
"The hope is that through Pyung Ahn, we will possess the confidence and clarity of mind that when faced with a stressful situation we are able to react with purpose." (excerpt from OCKicks student essay)
