San Kil Tang Soo Do 10/05/2009
![]() The words "San Kil" are Korean for "Mountain Path". Before testing for your orange belt at OC School of Martial Arts you will be asked to write an essay about the meaning of San Kil Tang Soo Do. What does a mountain represent to you? What type of terrain do you think you encounter on the way to the top of a mountain? San Kil Tang Soo Do was founded on May 30, 1996 by Kwan Jang Nim David Sgro. The style of San Kil (Mountain Path) is based on the classical marital art Tang Soo Do (China Hand Way). The mountain path represents challenges that we all face in life and must persevere to overcome. The term "San Kil” is an old Korean cliché that means “when there is a mountain in front of you, find the path and overcome it.” This philosophy is represented in the style's logo or "Kwan Gi" (see above). Master Sgro states that “The sole purpose for the study of San Kil Tang Soo Do is to develop students’ self-esteem so that they, when faced with physical, mental and spiritual challenges in life, will have the confidence to confront the challenge, and succeed.” Check back for future posts about the meaning of the various elements that make up the San Kil Tang Soo Do logo.
